To celebrate the 90th anniversary of the discovery and study of Dong Son culture (1924-2014), the Vietnam National Museum of History will organise many commemorative activities, including the scientific conference titled "Dong Son Culture - 90 years of discovery and research” on November 18.
The workshop will be attended by cultural researchers and officials from research institutions, cultural management agencies, universities and other related entities. Based on their new findings, research and new perceptions of Dong Son Culture, they will propose recommendations for preservation and promotion of research, exhibition, conservation and publishing.
Also during this event, the opening of “Dong Son Culture” Exhibition and the release of "Dong Son Culture - Artefact collection at the Vietnam National Museum of History” publication will take place on the same day. Celebratory activities will uphold historical values of Dong Son Culture while helping younger generations gain more knowledge and pride of this culture.
The Dong Son Culture was accidentally discovered in 1924 in Dong Son Village on the banks of the Ma River, about 1 km south of Ham Rong Bridge, Thanh Hoa Province. In 1934, the term "Dong Son Culture" was officially identified. So far, over 200 relics backdated the Dong Son Culture have been found, mainly distributed in three major basins of the Red, Ma and Ca rivers.
