During 45 years of operation as a top trading partner and investor in Vietnam, Sunwah Group has also made significant contributions to the community and nation of Vietnam through philanthropy, social projects, education, arts and meaningful cultural programmes. This also evidenced the Group’s success philosophy "Living is giving, not just receiving.”
Hong Kong-based Sunwah Group is specialised in seven main fields: Food, real estate, financial services, infrastructure, education, technology and communications. During 45 years in Vietnam, Sunwah has expanded its business operations to real estate development, financial services, export of seafood, coffee and other agricultural products. Furthermore, knowing that "a successful business must take care and contribute to the community, the economy and the country where it invests," Sunwah invested in Vinacapital to become a strategic shareholder and founded Sunwah Fund - a charitable and social development fund which finances education, health and arts in Vietnam. In the past years, the fund has been appreciated by the Party, the State, the Government and people of Vietnam.
More than ever, to market its 45th anniversary in Vietnam in 2015, the Group wants to thank partners and community and strengthen its determination of continued contribution to Vietnam’s development with strategic investments and meaningful activities. Dr Jonathan Choi, President of Sunwah Group and Sunwah Foundation, said, "Through projects in the 45th year in Vietnam, Sunwah wants to emphasise the importance of investments and community returns to the business.”
And, to start its gratitude campaign to this community, in January 2015, Sunwah Group successfully organised “Social and creative day - Sunwah and friends" Programme at Park 23-9 (HCM City), which attracted more than 1,000 participants. With the philosophy "Let's take action", the programme called everyone, from government officials, business leaders, students and pupils to the children, to thank the community, join social activities and promote creativities.
Following this success, in February 2015, Sunwah held an inauguration and handover ceremony to present ULIS- Jonathan KS Choi Culture Centre to the University of Foreign Language College, Vietnam National University of Hanoi. Not only creating a modern international studying space for teachers and students at the University of Foreign Languages and the ULIS- Jonathan KS Choi Culture Centre also linked to other Sunwah centres and networks in other countries and territories (Hong Kong, China, the UK, USA, Japan and Cambodia), thereby helping to improve the understanding, respect the unique culture of each country, create goodwill, and open the path to a harmonious world.
On March 28 - 29, 2015, Sunwah Foundation totally funded the International Scientific Conference on "East Asia Confucianism: Tradition and Modernity" at Vietnam National University of Hanoi. The workshop was organised by the Centre for Chinese Studies, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, the Vietnam National University of Hanoi and Sunwah Foundation. This was an opportunity for countries in East Asia and Southeast Asia, though there are many unique differences, to learn experience and share a common vision of Confucianism value for joint development of peace, friendship and prosperity.
