Vietnam and Japan have many successful cooperation projects in the coal industry, with the significant contribution of scientific, technological and training cooperation between the Vietnam National Coal - Mineral Industries Holding Corporation Limited (Vinacomin) and many of Japan’s companies, especially Marubeni Corporation.
Vinacomin has exported coal to Japan for over 20 years. Apart from exporting high-quality coal to Japan, Vinacomin is also stepping up cooperation with Japanese trading companies to seek coal sources for import after 2016 to supply thermal power projects in Vietnam.
Vinacomin and Marubeni Corporation signed a MOU on cooperative agreement to further tighten the bilateral strategic cooperative relationship on Feb 23. Marubeni and Vinacomin leaders exchanged views on specific bilateral effective cooperative areas as electricity, chemicals, mine construction machinery, alumina project and aluminum electrolysis.
Mr Fumiya Kokubu - President & CEO of Marubeni Corporation highly appreciated the achievements of Vinacomin. He hoped that, by signing MoU on comprehensive cooperation, in the future, Marubeni and Vinacomin will become the long-term strategic partners of each other.
"In the next time, Marubeni will research, propose to expand cooperation with Vinacomin in areas such as investment for coal and minerals production, power, chemical and specialized technical equipment," said Mr Fumiya Kokubu.
According to Mr Dang Thanh Hai - President & CEO of Vinacomin, following this MoU, the two sides will boost long-term strategic cooperation in each specific areas to achieve greater efficiency.
The cooperative agreement MOU to further tighten the bilateral strategic cooperative relationship with a hope of Marubeni that Vinacomin would create favourable conditions for Marubeni to expand cooperative spheres, especially, to participate in key projects that Vinacomin is developing and will develop in coming time.
By the end of February, 2016, the revenue of Vinacomin is VND14,566 billion (13.2 per cent of the plan); major products as raw coal production of 6.1 million tonnes, 5.4 million tonnes of consumption coal, transport and unloading of 21.5 million m3 of rock and soil, producing 7,573 tonnes of copper ore, 2,079 tonnes of copper cathodes, production and consumption of 1,459 million kWh of electricity.
In March, the Group aims to produce 4 million tonnes of raw coal, consuming 3.3 million tonnes, 770 million kwh of electricity production, 67,000 tonnes of alumina.
The main products in the 5 years from 2016 to 2020 are coal sales 200.5 million tonnes; imported coal to supply for domestic market from 40 to 50 million tonnes.
