VN, UAE Head to Bilateral Trade Turnover of US$10 Bln
PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc proposed Viet Nam and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) launch specific measures to develop the two nations’ cooperation, especially in economics and trade to raise the bilateral trade turnover to US$10 billion.
The PM made that statement at his reception for the UAE’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan on May 11.
The PM suggested the two nations encourage UAE businesses and investment funds to invest in renewable energy, tourism, infrastructure, harbor and airports, real estate and agricultural products in Viet Nam.
PM Phuc conveyed his initiation to his UAE counterpart Mohamed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum and President Tran Dai Quang’s invitation to the UAE President to visit Viet Nam.
The UAE Minister hailed Viet Nam’s achievements in socio-economic development process, expressing his hope that under the leadership of PM Phuc, Viet Nam will gain more success in its national establishment and development.
He announced the results of the talks between him and Deputy PM, FM PhamBinh Minh, asserting that the UAE attaches importance to the relationship with Viet Nam, committing to enhancing cooperation between the two sides in all areas.
The same day, Minister Al Nahyan and Deputy PM and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh held talks, during which they affirmed their determination to further foster friendly coordination via increased exchanges at all levels, regular political consultation between the two foreign ministries and mutual support at regional and global forums and organizations.
To raise two-way trade to 10 billion USD, both sides agreed to increase trade promotion activities, facilitate market access and intensify ties between the Vietnamese and UAE Chambers of Commerce and Industry.
Deputy PM Minh proposed the UAE help Vietnam with opening bonded warehouse centers in the UAE and establishing a Halal Certification Centre in Viet Nam, making it easier for Vietnamese food exporters to access Islamic markets.
He also wished for more UAE investments in the areas of oil and gas, infrastructure, agriculture, climate change, metallurgy, renewable energy, construction materials and Halal food manufacturing, towards making the UAE the largest Middle East investor in Viet Nam.
The Vietnamese side presented a list of Vietnam’s major projects in need of capital and preferential credit.
Both sides were committed to extending joint work across the potential fields of labor, security, energy, banking, tourism and farming.
Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Tuan Anh led the Vietnamese delegation and the UAE’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan co-chaired the third session of Viet Nam-UAE Inter-Governmental Committee in Ha Noi on May 10-11.
The two nations singed Memorandum of Understandings on education and training, trade and commerce.
