Vietnam Businessman Golf Tournament 2005 - VCCI Cup: Ideal Venue for Businesspeople

3:49:09 PM | 9/29/2005

The first, biggest golf event for Vietnamese enterprises, Vietnam Businessman Golf Tournament 2005 - VCCI Cup, is scheduled to open on Saturday October 8 at the Chi Linh Star Golf & Country Club in Hai Duong province under the initiative of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) to celebrate Vietnam Entrepreneurs Day (October 13) and the Annual Meeting between the Prime Minister and enterprises.

Supported and co-hosted by the Vietnam National Committee for Sport and Physical Culture and the Hai Duong Provincial People’s Committee, the inaugural tournament will gather together 200 golfers, including successful businessmen from all economic sectors in Vietnam and 30 V.I.P guests who are Government officials, leaders of ministries, provinces and cities, and ambassadors to Vietnam. The tournament lures around 60 golfers of the total from the South of Vietnam, mainly in Ho Chi Minh City.

Apart from the purpose of strengthening relations between VCCI and the business community in Vietnam, the tournament will also provide a good opportunity for entrepreneurs to exchange views and business experience, expand international relations, affirm trademarks and images of enterprises, and get some exercise.

“VCCI presents for the Vietnamese business community, therefore, it is also necessary for us to offer both business supports and chances for businessmen to relax. We (VCCI) have recently organised annual tennis tournaments for enterprises but this is the first time for golf of VCCI,” said Dr Doan Duy Khuong, VCCI Vice Executive President and Head of the tournament’s Organising Committee.

“Golf is considered the sport of international integration and therefore more and more Vietnamese entrepreneurs have spent time on playing with the aim of strengthening relations with their partners and seeking new business opportunities. This is a new business culture in Vietnam,” he remarked.

This is a very important sports event, not only for VCCI but also for the entire Vietnamese business community. Therefore, VCCI will organise the tournament each year on the Saturday or Sunday prior to October 13. More importantly, some senior officials of the Vietnam National Committee for Sport and Physical Culture have in principle agreed to add the tournament to the committee’s annual sports events list with the aim of partly contributing to the development of the emerging game in Vietnam.
The sport event will include charity activities to partly ease the circumstances of dioxin victims, using funds raised from green fees and the auction of valuable gifts at the Prize Awarding Ceremony.

The Prize Awarding Ceremony will be hosted at Sofitel Plaza Hotel in Hanoi with the participation of more than 300 special guests, including . Apart from presenting prizes to the best golfers, valuable gifts will also be given to lucky golfers and guests in lucky draws. An auction will also be held of a pair of FIFA World Cup 2006 semi-final tickets and a book called “Vietnam - 10 Years after the US War” by Oishi Yoshino, a freelance photojournalist, to raise funds for dioxin victims and disabled children.

VCCI’s Vietnam Business Forum Magazine, the Chi Linh Star Golf & Country Club, the Hanoi Golf Club and the HMBV Group are responsible for the holding of the VCCI Businessman Golf Tournament 2005.

Followings are ideas of golfers and organisers of  Vietnam Businessman Golf Tournament 2005 - VCCI Cup:

Mr. Pham Duc Thanh, Deputy Head of Elite Sports Department II under the Vietnam National Committee for Sport and Physical Culture
As sport promotes peace, friendship, cooperation and development, the golf tournament should be an annual event of VCCI and the Vietnam National Committee for Sport and Physical Culture lends full support to the idea and will cooperate with VCCI and conduct necessary procedures to add Vietnam Businessman Golf Tournament 2005 - VCCI Cup to the committee’s list of annual sport events. Vietnam is paying attention to the development of this sport that carries features of international cooperation.

Mr Lars Holden, General Director of the Chi Linh Star Golf & Country Club
Chi Linh Star Golf & Country Club is proud to be selected for the tournament because this is also a good chance to introduce our image and services to golfers. Although this is not a professional tournament, the well-prepared organization of VCCI will set a strong foundation for following tournaments. Chi Linh Star Golf & Country Club will do its best for the first businessman tournament. It is necessary to combine golf with tourism and in 5 or 10 years, Vietnam will become an attractive destination for foreign golfers thanks to a diversified range of beautiful, international standard golf courses and friendly Vietnamese people.

Le Dinh Trong, Director of Power PR Company
Golf has been seeing an out-of-bounds development in Vietnam since 1995 and more and more Vietnamese, especially entrepreneurs, are keen on the game. Being involved in golfing, we (businessmen) have opportunities to not only get physical and intellectual exercises, get patience and lucid decisions but also relax, exchange views and seek business partners.

The first golf tournament hosted by VCCI has created an exciting playing field and a meeting point for business people to expand business relations and cooperation. Although this is not a professional tournament, it carries big socio-economic significance, partly affirming Vietnam’s position in the international arena and remarking an out-of-bounds participation of Vietnamese enterprises in the global integration.

I hope that before the Saturday or Sunday prior to October 13 each year, every business person who plays golf will always remember VCCI Businessman Golf Tournament, an ideal playing field for entrepreneurs.
