The Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) and the AVE-GTZ Public Private Partnership of the German Technical Cooperation Agency GTZ) has jointly hosted the fourth roundtable conference on intensifying dialogues and cooperation to improve corporate social responsibility (CSR).

Mr. Nguyen Quang Vinh, director of the Vietnam Business
Links Initiative Programme under the VCCI, said CSR attracted great concerns from enterprises and management organisations in the previous three roundtable conferences. This fourth conference will mainly focus on the definition of roles and executing measures for concerned parties, especially buyers, in assisting Vietnamese enterprises to apply corporate social responsibility at a low cost.

Mr Diep Thanh Kiet, vice chairman of the Vietnam Leather and Footwear Association and the vice chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Textile, Garment, Knitting and Embroidery Association, said Vietnamese small and medium-sized enterprises can improve their competitiveness by human factors. Therefore, the application of CSR is crucial. The benefits of good CSR application will make labourers feel secure in what they are doing and who they are working for, make enterprise owners feel secure and proud of their workforce, and therefore making customers feel secure in what they are buying. The application of CSR, which requires a humble investment, will bring great benefits to enterprises and are in compliance with the Labour Code. Kiet said that to apply CSR at a reasonable cost Vietnamese enterprises should seek related information from various sources such as consultancy, exert all available resources in order to receive correct information, training and financial support, set up good policies, and introduce long-term supervision plans.
