The UNESCAP has assisted the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) to develop new services for the e-commerce portal VNemart (
www.vnemart.com). The assistance is part of the “Development of e-business development services for SMEs in selected ASEAN countries and southern China” Project (ICTSD). VNemart has now become the largest B2B portal in Vietnam with over 5,500 members.
ICTSD funded by the Government of Japan through the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The key task of the project is to promote the capacity of enterprises support agencies (ESAs) and business development services (BDSs) to enhance the development of small and medium enterprises (SME) by adopting e-business. The VNemart Development Project is one of the last four projects (the e-business pilot project) funded by UNESCAP. Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia and Yunnan Province of China are the beneficiaries.
The development of new services for VNemart is the integration of e-business services for small and medium enterprises on the VNemart Portal. The UNESCAP provides finances and technical consultancies for VCCI to employ these services. These services are related to planning and implementation of e-business and consultant and technical aspects of using information and communication technologies in commerce.
VCCI has developed services for its VNemart members to strengthen and intensify their commercial capacities toward online buyers; especially the subscribers to PRO and GOLD packages of VNemart. The PRO service package enables members to create independent websites will full features and the GOLD package is for the highest-grade VNemart membership. Apart from the integrated Verified and V-rating services, PRO and GOLD packages are also tools to increase reputation and confidence of the members in e-commerce.
Mr. Bui Duc Tuan, Deputy Director of E-commerce and Information Department under the Institute of Information Technology for Business, VCCI, said VNemart creates websites for enterprises with very low costs and helps enterprises in short of human resources to employ e-commerce. And especially, VNemart allows exact identification of memberships. He said this helps increase reliability as well as remove shortcomings in today’s e-commerce.
When it began operation, VNemart had only 27 member enterprises with over 1,800 products. Nowadays, VNemart is the largest e-commerce portal in Vietnam. It now has over 5,500 member enterprises of 29 industries, including nearly 2,500 foreign companies from 80 countries like China, the United States and India.
VNemart not only focuses on listed industries but also prioritises associations and localities. VNemart has assisted many localities to build their sub-webs at the portal. Through these subwebs, localities can carry out transactions independently under the management of VNemart. Particularly, VNemart also has several subswebs for specific markets like China, Africa and South Korea. In the near future, VNemart will apply e-payment and sign online contracts to maximise its supports for on-floor enterprises. Apart from expanding the B2B (Business to Business) model, VNemart also intensifies the development of the B2C (Business to Customer) model and other supporting services.
