The Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) will join hands with the Algerian Embassy in Vietnam to hold a business forum on the occasion of a visit by Mustapha Benbada, Algerian Minister of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises, to the country, State media said.

The forum is scheduled to discuss recommendations of the 7th meeting by the Algeria-Vietnam Joint Committee.

The minister will be accompanied by a delegation of businesses active in areas of farm produce, foodstuff, construction materials, electronics, medicines, chemicals, rubber and others.

The gathering will be a good opportunity for Vietnamese companies to enhance cooperation with Algerian partners, creating favorable conditions for local businesses to penetrate deeper into Africa.

A trade delegation of Vietnam’s capital city Hanoi, in October this year, conducted market surveys in Algeria seeking trade, tourism and service cooperation opportunities.

The mission worked with two large wholesale and retail sales groups, namely Blanky and La Belle, and other businesses which expressed their desire to directly import goods from Vietnam. They also wanted to exchange health, education and agriculture experts with Vietnam.

Vietnam and Algeria established diplomatic ties in 1962. Bilateral relations have been promoted by exchanges of visits of high-level delegations.

However trade activities between the two countries are limited. According to statistics from the Vietnamese Ministry of Trade, Vietnam-Algeria trade turnover in 2005 was only around US$14 million.
