Regulations Easing on Vietnam Seafood Exports to US, Canada

Vietnamese seafood producers will not be required to get certificates from the National Fisheries Quality Assurance and Veterinary Directorate (Nafiqaved) for exporting to Canada and the US as of March 10.

Under an agreement between Nafiqaved, a subsidiary of the Vietnamese Ministry of Fisheries, and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA), the Canadian agency will reduce the frequency of taking specimens to check for antibiotic residue, and those taken will not exceed 5 per cent of seafood batches imported from Vietnam.

However, this regulation is only applied to Vietnamese businesses eligible for exporting to Canada, already licensed by Nafiqaved. (Vietnam & World Economy)
