Citibank Supports Vietnam's Micro Financial Services
Citigroup has decided to grant US$570,000 to ten Asian nations, including Vietnam, to help expand micro-financial services to maintain sustainable financial development in the coming time.
“Our efforts are aimed to expand access to fundamental financial services such as credits, savings, insurance and money transfer for the poor in those nations and help them escape from poverty,” Robert Morse, CEO in charge of Bank for Business and Investment in the Asia-Pacific Region said.
Citibank Vietnam said the program scheduled for 2007-2008 aims to promote cooperation between state-owned and private businesses and to apply the most advanced experiences in expanding financial services to the poor.
Under the program, seminars will be held to introduce management experience in the micro-finance field and for human resource training.
The Asia Micro-Financial Forum, one of the Citigroup’s initiatives, is expected to be held in 2008 with participation of 250 representatives from banks, government agencies and other financial institutions. (Vietnam & World Economy, VNA)
