Singapore to Import More Vietnam's Cassava
The Singaporean National Cooperative Federation (SNCF) has expressed a wish to cooperate with the central highlands province of Lam Dong in exporting sweet potatoes and cassava to Singapore, the Trade Promotion Department under Trade Ministry said.
After surveying the Dalat vegetable and flower market, the Singaporean federation signed a test-export contract with the province to buy a container of sweet potatoes and cassava. The value of the contract was not made public.
Under a Memorandum of Understanding between the two sides, the federation pledged investment of 30 per cent of potential contract value for local farmers growing these food crops, if the test-export is successful.
Lam Dong now boasts some 1,744 hectares of Japanese sweet potato, with production output estimated at 14,430 tons, and more than 1,370ha of cassava with output reaching 15,870 tons. (Vietnam & World Economy)
