A Vietnamese delegation led by a deputy trade minister will pay a working visit to Saudi Arabia this May, promoting the development of economic and commercial ties between the two countries, said the Ministry of Trade (MoT).

The ministry will also send import-export businesses to the country for market research and trade promotion, under the national trade promotion program 2007.

They will include businesses exporting farm produce, footwear, textiles and garments, wooden products, farm machines, handicrafts and plastics, as well as those importing petroleum, plastic materials, fertilizers, chemicals and steel.

The MoT will organize seminars and business forums in Riyadh and Jeddah during the scheduled ten day visit. The delegation also plans to travel to Dubai to meet with local businesses.

In late May 2006, Vietnam and Saudi Arabia signed an agreement pledging cooperation in economics, trade, investment and technical exchange, during a three-day visit to Vietnam by Saudi Foreign Minister, Nizar bin Obaid Madani.

The two countries have only had established diplomatic relations for 7 years, since October 1999. Annual two-way trade revenue remains modest at US$60 million in recent years. (VNA)
