Doing business with German partners

To help Vietnamese businesses, the Trade Ministry has issued the handbook, “Export to Germany: Essential guidelines.”

The book focuses on German business culture, for example the importance of good preparation for negotiation without too much flexibility, especially changes in purposes and conditions, and refraining from asking for an immediate deal without negotiation on alternatives. It is also important to present the precise conditions of the deal.

In case of continued negotiation, a schedule must be agreed upon together with expected information and a decision time-table, as German people are detailed planners. Punctuality will help gain sympathy and cooperation from partners.

The guidebook will help Vietnamese businesses upgrade their professionalism and ensure successful cooperation with German partners.

Germany is a driving force in the EU economy and a gateway for Vietnamese businesses to expand EU exports. However, the trade value between the two countries fails to match the potential due to lack of knowledge on German regulations and practices.
