Vietnamese, Japanese Businesses Gather for Investment Cooperation
A Viet Nam-Japan Economic Seminar kicked off in Hanoi on April 17, attracting representatives from 20 prominent Japanese companies in Vietnam and local businesses, as well as the Kansai Economic Federation (Kankeiren) delegation currently in the country on a fact finding mission.
Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam Norio Hattori said this is a good opportunity for Japanese investors to explore Vietnam’s investment climate and establish long-term business.
The event was co-organized by the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), the Vietnam Japan Business Forum (VJBF), and the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO).
Japan presently is one of the largest investors in Vietnam, with 766 valid projects capitalized at US$ 7.7 billion in registered capital by March this year, according to the Ministry of Planning and Investment.
Japan’s investment in Vietnam has risen by nearly 3 times, from US$300 million in 2003 to US$840 million in 2005, to around1 billion in 2006.
So far Vietnamese companies have invested some US$2 million in five projects in Japan.
