The Vietnam Days will be held in South Korea May 21-24 to foster investment from this country, announced the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) at a press briefing in Hanoi May 10.

The event also features Vietnam’s unique cultural beauty, to bring more tourists from the Northeast Asian country to Vietnam.

Within the framework of the event, Vietnam will send a delegation of 100 businesses, led by Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Sinh Hung, to South Korea to carry out investment promotion activities. The mission will include giant groups such as Vietnam Oil and Gas, Vietnam Post and Telecommunications and Vietnam Coal and Mineral Industries, said Pham Gia Tuc, VCCI Secretary General.

As many as 300-400 South Korea companies operating in Vietnam, will also participate in the event, he added.

During the stay, the Vietnamese PM will work with South Korean government leaders to implement trade promotion programs in industry, infrastructure, information technology, agro-forestry sector, labor, banking, finance and many others.

Large contracts are expected to be inked as more South Korean investors are keen on Vietnam’s heavy and supporting industries, garment and textile, footwear, real estate, luxury resorts, and finance and banking sectors, emphasized Tuc.

South Korea is now Vietnam’s third largest FDI investor with 1,236 projects valued at $7.8 billion, ranking sixth among importers of Vietnamese goods, according to VCCI's report.

Last year, investors from the country registered invest $2.86 billion, a record level so far, said the Korean Trade Investment Promotion Agency (Kotra).

Up to 93 per cent of the 217 South Korean companies investing in Vietnam said they are highly satisfied with business outcomes in Vietnam, a survey conducted by Kotra in November-December last year reported.

In the coming time, Korean investors will open more projects in Southeast-Asian region, including Vietnam, instead of traditional markets like the US, Canada and Australia, economic experts forecast.

The number of South Korean visitors to Vietnam, posting annual growth of 36.1 percent, is the third largest at present.

Vietnam Days will also be held in Malaysia in June, India in July and in France in September, VCCI reported. (VNA)
