Mekong Delta Plans US$6.1Mln for Tourism Development
Mekong Delta provinces have invested VND98 billion (US$6.1 million) in a tourism development program aiming at further boost the regional hospitality.
The fund will be poured into upgrading, building and preserving tourist assets, both tangible and intangible, such as floating markets, gardens, ancient houses, pagodas and southern folksongs.
Rich in tourist advantages, namely festivals, orchards, the National Bird Sanctuary Tram Chim, traditional craft villages and food specialties such as coconut candies, the Mekong Delta is among the six largest tourist venues in Vietnam.
The region is considered as a small Vietnam for all natural characteristics ranging from the river and canal system to mountains, seas, forests, islands and border areas. It is also open to other major tourist sites in Southeast Asia.
Currently, the Mekong Delta area consists of 13 cities and provinces with the population of more than 17 million people, accounting for 20.7 per cent of the country’s population. (VNA Aug 12, Vietnam Panorama)
