Vietnam was estimated to ship 1,85 million pairs of shoes worth US$12.5 million to Malaysia in the first seven months of this year, up 41.6 per cent on year in volume and 60.4 per cent on-year in terms of value, said the Ministry of Industry and Trade on its website.

In July, the sector obtained US$2.25 million from exports the foreign market, up 110 per cent on month and 68.7 per cent on-year, it noted, saying that plastics and rubber capped shoes witnessed the strongest growth of 978 per cent with 195,400 pairs sold.

Sandal exports to the foreign market, however, were down 3 per cent in terms of volume and up 216 per cent on month in terms of value, the source said

The significant increase was mainly attributed to export strategy shifts of Vietnam’s footwear sector to avoid fierce competition and strict regulation of the EU market and high demand of the Malaysia market.

In September 11, a Vietnamese delegation of apparel makers reportedly organized a workshop in Mexico City to promote export to this country.

The country’s shoe industry expects to obtain US$3.9-4 billion from exports, compared with US$3.59 billion last year. (Vietnam & World Economy)
