Vietnamese seafood enterprises will tour Russia, Australia, Chile, Brazil and Spain within September in an effort to promote local seafood’s potential at foreign markets and seek for more partnerships, the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (Vasep) said.
According to the Vasep, the enterprises started their tour at Latin American countries where they will attend a number of expos.
During their ten-day tour, the businesses will attend the 2007 Seafood Expo Latin America, visit factories and fishing ports in Santos and Brazil, the Terminal Pesquero Metropolitano fishing market and a salmon raising and processing centre in Puerto Montt.
Meanwhile, 30 representatives from Vietnamese seafood businesses will arrive in Russia for the World Food Fair in Moscow from September 14-24, the annual largest international food fair in Russia.
Another delegation will take part in the Fine Food Fair slated for Sept. 24-27 in Australia, an annual prestigious event dedicated to high-end food products.
More businesses will arrive in Spain on Sept. 29 for the Conxemar Fair in Spain, the country’s biggest annual seafood fair. The exhibition, slated for October 2-4, has adapted to offer exhibitors and visitors alike unique conditions for establishing trade contacts in the European market.
Meanwhile, Vietnamese fisheries sector is striving to set up brand names for Vietnamese seafood products like shrimp, catfish, tuna and pangasius, at a recent workshop on brand strategies in HCM city.
Workshop participants said that brands should focus on gaining a seal of quality from the national level and a protected geographic indication at the provincial level for traditional fermented products.
With a 3,260km coastline, Vietnam produced over 3.4 million tons of seafood and attended seafood exports of nearly US$3.367 billion last year. (Vietnam & World Economy)
