Vietnam to Invest up to US$15 Bln in Aluminium Industry by 2025

The government of Vietnam said on its Web site it has approved plans to invest between US$11 billion and US$15 billion into aluminium ore exploration, exploitation, processing and infrastructure projects from now till 2025.
 
Vietnam is expected to need US$47.5 million for surveys and designs of aluminium exploration projects, between US$9.9 billion and US$13.7 billion for the bauxite ores production and processing facilities and the remaining US$1.9 billion for infrastructure works, including building rails, roads, ports and other infrastructure.
 
Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has instructed that joint stock companies with a majority of state holdings will be allowed to participate in the bauxite and aluminum projects.
 
From now to 2015, Vietnam will build seven aluminium factories and a bauxite processing complex to produce of 6.4 million-8.4 million tons of aluminium and 650,000 tons of bauxite ore a year.
 
Between 2007 and 2025, Vietnam is expected to build another two aluminum metallurgy facilities with annual capacity of 200,000 tons-400,000 tons.
 
Vietnam is expected to build a special port in coastal Binh Thuan province to receive ships of 30,000DWT-50,000DWT to serve transportation and shipments of aluminium industrial complexes in central highlands regions.
 
Vietnam’s total bauxite reserves are estimated at about 5.5 billion tons, which are concentrated in southern and central highlands regions. Bauxite ore reserve in Dak Nong is estimated at 3.4 billion tons. (Government Website)
