Vietnam Car Sales Record 156 per cent On-Year Growth in January

Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA) has announced car sales of its 17 member carmakers rose 156 per cent to 12,084 units in January, the highest ever on-year increase.
 
Vinamotor turned up to hold largest market share of 23 per cent with 2,792 cars sold in the month, VAMA noted, adding that Truong Hai Auto reportedly sold 2,007 units or 17 per cent of the market share.
 
Toyota’s car sale down turned to the third position with 1,841 vehicles or 15 per cent of the market shares.
 
All of the carmakers saw strong growth of sales of three types of cars. They sold 7,780 units of the commercial vehicle in January, up 350 per cent on year, 2,198 units of SUV/MPV models, up 22 per cent on year and 2,106 units of passenger cars, up 77 per cent on year.
 
According to the General Statistics Office, Vietnam imported 3,000 fully assembled vehicles valued at US$49.5 million in January this year, compared with 700 vehicles valued at US$14 million in January 2007.
 
January imports of vehicles and parts were worth a combined US$115.5 million, up from US$54.5 million a year earlier.
