Ha Long Bay Leads in Current World Wonders Voting

Ha Long Bay of Vietnam jumped to the first position in the second phase of the voting for seven new world wonders on New Open World’s website www.new7wonders.com by 5 pm GMT February 20, according to the Vietnam Administration of Tourism. by 5 pm GMT February 20, according to the Vietnam Administration of Tourism.
 
Ha Long Bay , which was recognized as a world natural heritage site for landscape value in 1994 and geological value in 2000 by the UNESCO, has left behind 76 of the top 77 official nominees in the current live ranking on the website, and more than 200 recommended wonders in the world.
 
The second and third position belonged to Bangladesh’s Cox’s Baza Beach and Sundarbans Forest.
 
Vietnam’s two other beauty spots – Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park and Fansipan Mountain – were selected as the third and fifth most favorites.
 
The voting is currently in its second phase of the four phase bid in which website voters will be asked to provide their private e-mail addresses and finish a list of seven of the nominated sites as natural wonders of the world.
 
Twenty-one sites out of a short-list of 77 nominees, that will be announced in January 2009, will be selected by a board of advisors from the New Open World Organization in the third phase.
 
The last phase will be done in the form of a global vote scheduled from 2009 to 2010.
 
The organization plans to release the final result in the summer of 2010. (Youth, VOV)
