Hanoi to Attract US$3 Bln FDI This Year
Hanoi is expected to pull in between US$2 billion and US$3 billion in foreign direct investment (FDI) this year, said Deputy Director of the municipal Department for Investment and Planning Nguyen Dinh Duong.
Of the sum, around US$2.5 billion will come from 260 newly-licensed projects and the rest will be from 40 existing projects.
Duong said South Korea’s Keangnam 5 star hotel project worth is waiting for the city’s approval to raise its capital to US$1 billion.
Meanwhile, Malaysia’s Gamura Berhad has submitted its proposal to the local authority to build a US$250-million waste treatment plant at Yen So Park.
The department said the capital city so far this year has licensed 72 FDI projects totaling US$574.8 million.
According to the Foreign Investment Agency under the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI), Hanoi has attracted around US$16 billion FDI over the past two decades, ranking the second position behind Ho Chi Minh City.
Of the total, more than US$5 billion has been disbursed.
The city expects disburse an additional US$2.5 billion FDI capital between now to 2010. (VNA, Capital Security Online)
