Vietnamese Consumers to Spend US$4.07 Bln on Technology Products This Year
Vietnamese consumers will spend US$4.07 billion on technology products this year, up 27 per cent on-year, forecast the market research company GfK Vietnam June 11, the Tuoi Tre newspaper reported.
Key product groups are domestic electronic and electric utensils, information and technology (IT), telecommunication and photography products.
According to GfK, IT products, electric utensils and photography products will see the strongest sales this year.
Last year, Vietnamese consumers spent some US$3.2 billion on technology products, with telecommunication obtaining the best sales valued at US$926 million in total.
Recently, the Vietnamese prime minister has approved the master plan for the development of the electronics sector, targeting revenues of US$4 billion-US$6 billion by 2010, with US$3 billion-US$5 billion of that from exports.
In the first five months this year, Vietnam shipped abroad US$964 million worth of electronics and computer parts, an increase of 25.2 per cent on-year. (Youth, GSO May 2008)
