The Ministry of Planning and Investment (MoPI) has proposed the government revoke licenses of 51 golf course projects because of inefficient land use, the government of Vietnam said on its website.

The figure could be higher when the ministry finishes its ongoing probes into golf course projects nationwide.

A resolution announced at the government August meeting states it is necessary to work out a national golf course development plan so that land will be efficiently used.

Government agencies must tighten control over license granting to golf course projects, it added, noting that it is unacceptable to use agriculture land, and land for construction of urban residential areas and industrial parks to develop golf courses.

In addition, golf course development must ensure environment protection, the resolution also said.

The government has asked the MPI to cooperate with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment to finish a report on golf course development from now to 2020 and submit it to Prime Minister for approval.

Vietnam is now home to 166 golf course projects. (chinhphu.vn, vietstock)
