Vietnam Chairs ASEAN Bankers Association
The Chairman of Vietnam JS Bank for Industry and Trade (CTG), or Vietinbank, Pham Huy Hung has officially assumed the presidency of the ASEAN Bankers Association (ABA) for the 2010-2011 term at the 39th meeting of the association.
The meeting was held in Phnom Penh between Nov 19-20 and participated by 10 ABA members, officials of finance organizations and senior officials of the Cambodian Government, the Hanoi-based bank said.
Dr. Hung affirmed at the meeting that Vietnam will try its utmost to contribute to ABA’s sustainable development and push ABA and ASEAN activities harmoniously to meet the goal of building a successful ASEAN Community by 2015.
The chairman also pointed out that ABA always heightens the objective of seeking opportunities and creating conditions for all member banks to develop strongly and dynamically.
Hung is now the President of the Vietnamese Banking Association.
Established in 1976, ABA had only five members, namely Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand.
The association has developed strongly after admitting the last five ASEAN members of Brunei, Vietnam, Cambodia, Myanmar and Laos. (vietinbank)
