More foreigners are expected to enter Vietnam as they want to tap investment potential in the emerging country which has a young population and is on track of high economic growth.

Nearly 1,500 CEO and CFOs from 260 groups worldwide are discussing opportunities in Vietnam, China, Indonesia, Malaysia and India at a conference held by Credit Suisse in Hong Kong from March 23-26.

Kim Anders Odhner, investment director of SGI Capital, said foreign investors are developing more long-term strategies instead of short-term ones as previously in Vietnam and the region.

Vietnam has a big production capacity, large consumption market and a geographical position in the region, Odhner noted.

Foreigners are very interested in large state-owned companies to be equitized in Vietnam, said Nguyen Thanh Huong, a senior official of Vietnam’s largest broker Saigon Securities Inc. The government pledged to continue boosting the share sale process which is still slow now.
