Vietnam U.S. Trade Valued at US$7.75B in Jan-May: Customs Dept.

Trade between Vietnam and the U.S. stood at US$7.75 billion in the first five months of 2010, including the former’s trade surplus of US$4.42 billion, the Vietnamese General Department of Customs said but giving no comparative figures.
 
The Southeast Asian nation reaped US$6.09 billion from exports to the U.S. and spent US$1.67 on imports during the period, the department said.
 
Vietnam’s export staples to the U.S. reported high on-year growth such as apparel up 32% to US$2.66 billion, footwear up 28.25% to US$621 million, woodwork products up 37.25% to US$595 million, and seafood up 29.77% to US$325.6 million.
 
The ASEAN nation’s 2010 target of exporting US$12.4 billion worth of goods to its largest importer of the U.S. is attainable, given an impressive result in the five-month period, the department noted.
 
Earlier, the department forecast the bilateral trade will surge to US$19 billion and US$20 billion in 2010 from US$15.4 billion last year. Of the sum, Vietnam will export over US$14 billion worth of goods and import over US$5 billion this year. (Young People)
