Vietnam Firms Invest $8.4B Abroad So Far: Ministry
Vietnamese companies have invested $8.4 billion in 558 projects in foreign countries and territories so far, the Foreign Investment Agency under the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI) said at a seminar in Hanoi on Dec 20.
The Tuoi tre newspaper quoted the MPI as saying that most of projects have been invested by the state-owned enterprises (SOEs); however, profits from these projects to the country are still modest.
Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam) has to date transferred $1 billion out of pledged $2.3 billion in 28 projects abroad. While, Vietnam Rubber Group has disbursed $170 million in total pledged $792 million in 16 projects in foreign nations so far.
Vietnam National Coal-Mineral Industries Group (Vinacomin) has invested $25 million in five projects in foreign countries and territories; however, it disbursed only $6.6 million so far.
The ministry also noted that only PetroVietnam and Vietnam Post and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) transferred their profits home with respective sum of $38.89 million and $88,000 so far.
Vietnamese companies are forecast to invest between $2.2 billion and $2.5 billion in countries and territories next year. They are predicted to disburse around $1 billion of the sum abroad during the year. (Youth)
