State Discusses Business Opportunities in
Vietnam
In an attempt to promote economic and trade cooperation with
Washington state (
USA ), VCCI organised a seminar in
Hanoi on September 2004 with the theme “Doing Business with
Washington state,
USA â€.
Speaking at the seminar, Mr. Hoang Van Dung, First Vice-President of VCCI outlined the economy and trade of
Washington state and its relations with
Vietnam in recent years. He pointed out that
Vietnam ranks 13th among 50 countries
Washington state exports to. In 2003 alone, bilateral trade between
Vietnam and
Washington state was US$1 billion, including US$301 million of Vietnamese exports, mostly in the garment sector.
Mr. Gary Locke, Governor of Washington state and guest of honour at the seminar pointed out: “We are very interested in building a strong, lasting trade partnership with
Vietnam . This country shows great promise as an emerging market for
Washington state products and services. We are eager to bring these products and services to the Vietnamese peopleâ€.
With over 90 per cent of
Washington state’s export value coming from the aviation industry, the industry will generate important business opportunities to develop the partnership between
Vietnam and
Washington state.
