She left her poor hometown as a young woman with two bare hands and faced many hardships to seek a better career opportunity. But, with her constant effort and devotion, she overcame all challenges in life and career to reap impressive success. This achievement not only helps her to create a glittering career, but also creates jobs for hundreds of local workers. She is Ms Nguyen Nam Phuong, CEO of Lan Anh Co., Ltd.
Resolute and firm
With her iron will, she has overcome countless difficulties and challenges in more than 15 years doing business in Ba Ria - Vung Tau, where she has found happiness as well as tears. All these things have tempered her unyielding spirit to overcome every challenge standing in her way and inspired her to make more firm decisions and plans to build the market prestige of the Lan Anh brand name.

But for her, tenacity also springs from the lives of her hundreds of employees. As the owner of a large multi-business corporation, the work pressure on this female CEO is significant, especially in the current economic context. So, the current issue for her is how to sustain these achievements, ensure employment and other rights and interests for her employees, and fulfil the duty to the State. This requires her to be smart and qualified enough to lead her business to deal with challenges; otherwise, her company could hardly avoid risks and losses.

Knowing this, she never stops learning and studying market information, acutely grasping opportunities, and sacrificing for the sake of her career. Therefore, such efforts help her continue to make a success and step firmly forward on the competitive market. This is evidenced by her company’s steady and forwarding performance in a market where other companies have to slash employee salaries or even go bankrupt because of economic slump.

Always looking from the heart
Stemming from her belief that "If a business wants to survive and develop, it must have heart and prestige. Profitability is not always the ultimate target but its long-term existence and development,” she thus always follows customer-oriented and employee-centred development projects. In 2011, she boldly started a 300-apartment project for low-income people. Each apartment with an area of 100 square metres is sold at VND500-620 million. This project not only helps low-income people to have accommodation, but also helps create jobs for hundreds of workers and engineers amid the on-going slump of the construction industry.

Together with the above project, she also carries out a lot of new projects like a detached villa construction project in Lan Anh 4 with an individual area of 330 square metres and selling prices ranging from VND1.6 billion to VND2 billion. She is preparing to carry out a market project in Lan Anh 2 project, a townhouse project which features units directly between the street and the market, sold at VND900 million - VND1.1 billion, a 200-room 5-storey housing project for students, nurses and doctors with a monthly rent from VND700,000 to VND1 million on Vo Van Kiet Street. On the other hand, the company is also asking permission from the Ba Ria - Vung Tau Provincial People’s Committee for expansion of Lan Anh 1 project by 18 ha, which nears to Lan Anh 4 project, to build commercial and residential complex to serve the two projects. In 2013, the company will build a nursery in Lan Anh 4 project and plan to complete it at the end of 2013 and early 2014.

Sharing burdens with the unfortunate
Coming from a poor family, she understands the suffering of unfortunate people more than anyone else. Therefore, since the time she started to do business and made a success afterwards, what she thinks of first is to help the poor to overcome their fate and lead a better life. She once said: "I find my money more meaningful when it is used for charity.” And, she is very happy to contribute to community development. Whenever Tet, or Lunar New Year, comes, she always sets aside a good sum of money to assist the poor and the disadvantaged to enjoy a full and happy New Year. Besides, she actively takes part in many charitable activities like building charity houses, granting scholarships to poor students, and donating to study promotion funds. Her deeds make the Lan Anh name more intimate and humane.

With her brilliant business achievements plus her important contributions to economic and social development, CEO Nguyen Nam Phuong was honourably awarded the Golden Rose Award by the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) for four consecutive years, and two Lighthouse Awards by the Ba Ria - Vung Tau Provincial People's Committee. Specifically, in 2011, she was bestowed the Third-grade Labour Order by the State President. These awards are entirely commensurate for brave, intelligent and successful women like Nguyen Nam Phuong.
