VAT Refund to Be Deployed at Phu Quoc Airport
The General Department of Vietnam Customs has worked with relevant bodies of the Ministry of Finance, the General Department of Taxation, and the State Treasury of Vietnam to consider adding Phu Quoc International Airport to the list of international airports implementing the VAT refund for exiting tourists.
The move was based on the recommendations of the Provincial People's Committee of Kien Giang and the Official Dispatch of the Office of Government to this aspect. The selection of international airports and international seaports applying VAT refund to tourists buying goods was assigned to the Ministry of Finance (General Department of Vietnam Customs) by the Prime Minister, specified at Official Document 806/TTg-KTTH of the Prime Minister. Thus, from the proposal of Kien Giang province, the General Department of Vietnam Customs is consulting relevant units for the inclusion.
The Kien Giang Provincial People's Committee said Phu Quoc International Airport officially opened international flights in February 2014, with the first being on the Russia - Phu Quoc route with a frequency of four flights per week. The airport is considering launching two new international routes, namely Phu Quoc - Singapore with two flights per week and Phu Quoc - Siem Reap (Cambodia) with three flights per week. According to development direction approved by the Prime Minister, tourism development will be promoted in Phu Quoc. Therefore, VAT refund for exiting tourists at Phu Quoc International Airport will be an important contribution to promoting tourism.
