Suntory Group Extends Water Education Programme
On March 22 - World Water Day, Suntory Group and Suntory PepsiCo Vietnam Beverage launched “Mizuiku - I love clean water 2016” with a view to extending the project to Vietnam’s southern elementary schools.
As a unique hands-on education programme, Mizuiku combines both teaching classes, practical activities and a variety of outdoor activities to educate children on the role of the water on the planet, thereby raising their awareness on the importance of water resources and water hygiene in daily life. Besides incorporating water education, the project also sponsors the installation of water facilities or renovation of rest rooms at participating schools.
At the first teaching class, the message of “water is a precious resource that should be preserved, protected and saved” was vividly conveyed to 900 pupils at 5 schools from District 8 and Binh Chanh District participating in the project through a series of activities such as painting exhibit, photos, cartoon, etc.
In 2015, the project was successfully piloted at 6 elementary schools in two Hanoi’s districts of My Duc and Thanh Oai with the participation of about 1,600 pupils. Based on the successful piloting in 2015, Mizuiku 2016’s scale is to benefit around 2,400 elementary pupils from 10 elementary schools in Bac Ninh, Hanoi, and Ho Chi Minh city with new initiatives such as Water Saving & Protecting Festival, outdoor activities for students to have direct experience of the conditions and learn about water, Mid-term seminar, project closing seminar to promote and replicate the project.
