On December 15, 2005 the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) signed a co-operation agreement with the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Post and Telematics to implement a project ‘Helping enterprises apply information technology for international integration and development’ in the 2006-2010 period.

Accordingly, the two sides will organise a series of promotional activities, including research and surveys into the information technology application landscape and capability of enterprises in Ho Chi Minh City and capability of information technology service providers. Based on the results of the researches and surveys, concrete measures will be taken to promote the application of information technology for international integration and development. Also, proposals will be made to the Government and authorised agencies. Seminars, conferences, contests and many other events will be organised to promote the awareness of the role of information technology in the development of enterprises.

At the same time, the two sides will build a centre to provide consultancy services on information technology application with guidelines and introduction of products and solutions suitable to each enterprise. Also, centres for information technology consultancy and training will be built alongside e-commerce centres.

Nguyen Thien Nhan, vice chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, said that enterprises should be given support so they would be able to promote information technology at low costs. Furthermore, there should be awards for those enterprises which record good results in their information technology application.
