A press center to offer free information services relating to the fourth Hue Festival 2006, which is expected to be held from June 3-11, was officially opened in Hue city in the central Thua Thien Hue province yesterday (March 29), a local newspaper reported.

The move is part of a preparation scheme for the biannual festival, one of the key festivals in Vietnam attracting several thousand Vietnamese and foreign visitors, an official of the local Department of Tourism said, adding that the center would help tourists more easily get information about the event in particular as well as the province in general.

Accordingly, from now to the time when the festival opens, visitors as well as local residents will have the chance to use the internet for free, and other services such as scanning, printing, and photocopy machines.

This year, the every-two-year festival will be more professional and interesting with many typical art and cultural programs of all the regions of Vietnam and other countries in the world. In particular, the festival will draw the participation of some countries and cultures that have not joined previous festivals.

The first event of this kind was held in 2000.

Hue, a world heritage site, located 600 km south of Hanoi and capital of the last Vietnamese feudal regime, derives from the quiet Song Huong (Perfume River) weaving its course between rolling hills housing the temples and tombs of the Nguyen Kings.

Hue is one of the three biggest tourist centers in Vietnam. Its attraction lies first of all in the many temples, palaces and mausoleums of the Nguyen Dynasty built between 1805 and 1832. The old citadel in the city measures 11 kilometers in circumference with a 21-meter thick wall and a flagpole standing 54.4 meters high.
