As the sun sets at Jibe’s Beach Club, sports activities are still on the high. Wind -surfboards with full sails add charming colours to the natural and primitive background. Along Mui Ne Beach in Binh Thuan Province, windsurfing and kitesurfing are favourite sports for foreign visitors.
Mr. Pascal Lefebvre, the director of Jibe’s Beach Club and the first person to bring surfing sports to Mui Ne Beach, said the idea of introducing windsurfing and kitesurfing struck his mind when he discovered the ideally windy conditions for the novel sea sports at this attractive and sandy beach. The wind here is strong, stable and doesn’t blow directly onto the beach but blows at a slant. This is ideal for both professional and amateur surfers. Furthermore, with its year-round moderate climate, the beach is a place of interest for foreign visitors.
Pascal brought a surfboard from France to Vietnam and tried to surf on Mui Ne waters to satisfy his private curiosity. Then, he bravely decided to introduce surfing sports in this area. Mrs, Pham Thi Hong Phuong, Pascal’s wife, was initially very anxious about her husband’s unprecedented project in addition to high investment costs. After collecting advice from friends and world-leading athletes, Pascal decided to invite them to Vietnam to survey and perform surfing sports. Performances by world-top athletes provide the most clear-cut evidence for the success of his project in Mui Ne. After advertising in more than 20 international newspapers, visitors flock to the beach, Phuong smiled happily.
Jibe’s Beach Club, set up in 2002, now has some 110 surfboards for hire. Phuong, who manages the Full Moon Resort, said that the widespread kudos of the club has attracted large volumes of visitors to the resort, which is always fully reserved. Particularly, during the holiday, many stay at the resort from two weeks to six months.
Obviously, surfing sports bring interesting and crazy moments for visitors. “A sport wholly relying on the force of the wind - very natural and environmentally friendly – drives people to enjoy the ecstasy of natural life. This should be encouraged,” Pascal said with a bright smile. If simply coming here for sightseeing, visitors may think this beach is too windy and sandy. Previously, visitors from Ho Chi Minh City got bored after two or three days here. Jibe’ Beach Club made previous weak points into strong points to attract young, successful and breathtakingly adventurous visitors.
To ensure that long- stay visitors don’t get bored, Pascal and Phuong decided to open more services at the Full Moon Resort including restaurants, bars, billiards and cozy homes. Notably, regular buffets with Binh Thuan traditional dishes bring diners a feeling of homestay happiness merged with traditional life. In short, Jibe’s Beach Club brings more visitors not only to the Full Moon Resort, with only 20 rooms, but also to other regional resorts.
