Vietnam is seeking UNESCO's recognition of Lang Co beach in the central Thua Thien-Hue province as one of the world's most beautiful beaches, a workshop on Preservation of Vietnam's world heritages held in the province on April 11 was told.
If UNESCO approves the suggestion, Lang Co beach will become the second beach in Vietnam after Danang beach, also in central region, ranked in the world’s most beautiful beach list.
Lang Co, 70 km south of the Hue Imperial City has an almost primitive and beautiful beach. It is located adjacent to the 1A National Highway and has great seaports of Chan May and Danang
With dazzlingly white sand and transparent water, the beach is considered one of the most important tourism spots in the province along with the ancient imperial city of Hue, Bach Ma National Park and Hai Van Pass.
Concerned agencies are carrying out surveys and are expected to give assessments of Lang Co beach to UNESCO soon.
At the meeting, delegates from Bach Ma National Park also in Thua Thien-Hue province, ask for UNESCO's recognition of the 22,000-ha Bach Ma National Park, which is home to 43 species of mammals, nine species of primates, and 330 species of bird, and at least 1,400 species of flora as a biosphere reserve.
Hue, located some 600 km south of Hanoi, is the capital of the last Vietnamese feudal regime. The town derives from the quiet Song Huong (Perfume River) weaving its course between rolling hills housing the temples and tombs of the Nguyen Kings. It welcomed 254,450 visitors in the first quarter of 2006, a year-on-year increase of 23.2 per cent, of which 113,540 were foreigners, up 13.3 per cent.
The province which has 135 hotels, 38 of which meet international standards, is one of the three biggest tourist centers in Vietnam. Its attraction lies first of all in the many temples, palaces and mausoleums of the Nguyen Dynasty built between 1805 and 1832. The old citadel measures 11 kilometers in circumference with a 21-meter thick wall and a flagpole standing 54.4 meters high. Pioneer
