Work on Vietnam's Biggest Five-star Hotel to Begin in 2007
The Hoang Gia company will launch a project to build the largest five-star hotel in Vietnam at a total cost of US$51.4 million near the World Heritage Site Ha Long Bay- the Bay of the Descending Dragon, in northern Quang Ninh province next year to help the city cope with its shortage of luxurious hotel rooms.
Hoang Gia hotel will also be the first five-star hotel in Ha Long city.
The hotel, comprising of 707 rooms, also aims to help the company foster its ambitious plan to become a leading hotel group in Vietnam.
The construction is scheduled to be finished by late 2008.
Ha Long Bay’s striking topography – with small islands with limestone formations jutting out of the sea – was created by the lash of a dragon’s tail as it thundered down from the mountains to the sea. The city, 165 km northeast of Hanoi was twice recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, once for its magnificent natural landscape in 1994 and the second time for its geological and topographical value in 1998. It is one of the most famous destinations in northern Vietnam to date.
Currently, Ha Long has around 10,000 rooms, including 1,649 four- and five-star rooms. The city, however, often faces a serious lack of hotel rooms around holiday periods, Tra Tuan Anh, vice Director of Vietravel Hanoi said.
The city received more than 315,000 tourists in the first quarter of 2006, a 24 per cent year-on-year increase, earning a revenue of VND225 billion (US$14.2 million).
