Hoi An to Set up Tourism Development Fund
The ancient town of Hoi An, the World Heritage site in the central Quang Nam province is seeking for permission from the provincial People’s Committee to found a fund for tourism development in order to re-invest and support the making of tourism products and promote tourism activities.
The fund will be raised with money contributed by hotels and guesthouses owners in the town, a local tourist official said, adding that the total amount of money raised each year is expected to reach US$33,000.
A good piece of news for Hoi An tourism sector is that 30-60 per cent of international tourists from traditional markets such as France, Germany, Australia, Denmark, Spain, Switzerland and Sweden have come to Vietnam and visited Hoi An as well.
Russian tourists are also tending to call at Hoi An when they travel to Vietnam. Russia is being viewed as a new potential market.
So far this year, Hoi An has received 600,000 tourists, a year-on-year increase of 28 per cent, including 200,000 foreign tourists. The turnover from the tourism sector reached about VND240 billion (US$15 million), an increase of nearly 12 per cent against last year’s same period.
Presently, Hoi An has around 1,000 ancient houses, and 16 travel firms with a total of 65 four to 45-seat cars, 24 cruise ships and 10 high-speed ships.
