Vietnam and five member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) have agreed to jointly strengthen multi-lateral tourism cooperation, aiming to boost international arrivals to the region by 15 per cent a year.

Accordingly, the six nations namely Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam, will join hands in launching tourism promotion campaigns and opening training programs for tourism employees.

Also, flights to each country will be opened in a bid to boost tourist arrivals, Indonesian Minister of Culture and Tourism Jero Wacik said. The move will create favorable conditions for regional tour operators to better run business in the field.

Vietnam and other member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) have recently signed a framework agreement on mutual visa exemption, making a favorable step in tourism cooperation among countries.

Presently, the number of tourists from ASEAN nations to Vietnam remains high. In the eight months of this year, Vietnam estimated to welcome around 281,000 holiday-makers from Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, and Thailand.
