Consumer Goods Exported to Russia
The Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) has recently cooperated with the Russian Embassy in Vietnam and SGS Co. to host a seminar themed “Exporting consumer goods to Russia - certification requirements” to help Vietnamese businesses to have more information about this market.
SGS representatives, who introduced services to exporters to the Russian market, said exporters to Russia may need several certifications for certain kinds of commodities. This system comprises of 19 compulsory certifications (provided by Russian laws) and over 300 optional certifications. Apart from helping businesses to obtain suitable certificates, SGS also assist exporters with other necessary documents to sell and exploit their products in Russian the market.
The two-way trade of Vietnam and Russia is estimated to generate a combined turnover of US$1 billion. Russia mainly exports rolled steel, machinery, mechanical equipment, automobiles and fertilisers to Vietnam while the latter principally exports rice, fruits, seafood, footwear and plastics to the former. Especially, Russia and Vietnam have closely cooperated in oil and gas exploitation, typically Vietsovpetro.
Addressing at the seminar, a commercial representative from the Russian Embassy in Vietnam said the trade result has not satisfied the two sides’ potentialities. The Russian commodities in Vietnam have not exceeded two per cent of the market value and the presence of Vietnamese goods in Russia is even at lower rate.
