Fifty-five Vietnamese trade counselors abroad and around 500 representatives from enterprises and associations in the south on January 29 gathered at a meeting jointly held by the Ministry of Trade (MoT) and the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI).

The move follows a two-day commercial counselor conference opened in Hanoi on January 23, with the participation of 140 trade counselors and attachés from 55 trade offices abroad, and representatives of relevant ministries and agencies, discussing measures expanding export markets.

At the event, the business community highlighted efforts made by the MoT and trade counselors in providing information, market research and seeking partners for local enterprises over the past years. The trade agencies abroad also actively participated in the national trade promotion program’s activities.

Enterprises proposed trade counselors form a mechanism providing continuously updated information about foreign markets, customers and their taste for the VCCI, businesses and associations. Moreover, the counselors should further promote trade, investment and tourism cooperation between local and foreign entrepreneurs.

Speaking at the event, trade counselors raised concerns over the possibility of increasing trade disputes in the upcoming time, when Vietnam’s exports continue growing strongly.

This year, Vietnam is targeted to earn US$47.54 billion from exports, up 20 per cent on-year, and to spend US$52.2 billion on imports, up 17.5 per cent, according to the MoT’s plan. (Youth, Pioneer)
