After Vietnam joined the World Trade Organisation (WTO), the expansion of information technology (IT) applications in enterprises plays a crucial role. The national project on assisting enterprises to apply information technology to serve integration and development in the 2005-2006 period was evaluated as an important lever to computerise enterprises now.
To help the business community in central Quang Nam Province apply IT to increase business and production efficiency. On June 21, 2007, the Office of the Institute of Information Technology for Business (ITB) under the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) in Danang City coordinated with Quang Nam Province’s Department of Posts and Telecom and People’s Committee to open a seminar on assisting enterprises to apply information technology to serve integration and development.
According to the report from the Department of Posts and Telecom, the IT application in Quang Nam Province-based enterprises is still poor. A survey into 700 out of 1,800 enterprises in Quang Nam Province showed that 90 per cent invested in hardware, 7 per cent in software and 3 per cent in training. This is an irrational structure.
Attendants to the seminar exchanged their viewpoints with managers and IT product and equipment suppliers about the difficulties in applying IT. Enterprises say that the application of genuine software is too expensive for small and medium enterprises. They hope ITB and suppliers to assist them. Accordingly, ITB and suppliers will introduce necessary solutions for enterprises to choose.
Hearing the opinions from local enterprises, Mr Nguyen Van Thao, vice general secretary of VCCI, said the demand for IT applications in Quang Nam Province is essential. Mr Thao pledged to assist the implementation of the Project 191, help enterprises apply IT through training and consulting programmes, supply information and instruct e-commerce joining. Especially, according to Mr Thao, once the leaders of companies pay attention to IT, their companies will develop and widely apply IT. Thus, enterprises in Quang Nam should raise the awareness of IT role to the business development for enterprise leaders.
Many solution suppliers are providing useful and necessary solutions for enterprises. For example, Lac Viet JSC launched IT solutions to small and medium enterprises, VDC3 introduced virtual private network and EVN Telecom has business information system link solution.
This seminar was not only a forum for enterprises to exchange experience, solutions and measures to IT application, to introduce their activities and seek business cooperation opportunities but also a bridge for managers, experts, service suppliers and customers to discuss measures to tackle difficulties and technical barriers to seek suitable orientations for specific business models and determine demand and basis for investment and develop IT effectively.
