PM Dung Approves Exploration Plans for Limestone, Kaolin
Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung November 6 approved plans to explore for limestone in northern Yen Bai province and kaolin in southern province of Binh Phuoc.
The plans are expected to supply more input materials for the country’s increasing demand for cement.
PM Dung assigned the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment to coordinate with the two provincial authorities to select competent exploration companies to conduct the plans and promised most favorable conditions, it said.
Vietnam, the country is rich in metal minerals, has estimated reserves at 224 million tons.
In the 1995-2003 period, the country processed 300,000-450,000 tons of mineral ores each year. However, in the 2003-2004 period, to feed China’s growing iron mineral demand, Vietnam raised its output to roughly 1 million tons a year.
