Vietnam Landscape Ranks 6th in Natural World Wonders Bid
The Vietnam-based World Heritage Site Ha Long Bay is placed 6th amongst 200 other nominees in the bid to become one of the seven natural wonders of the world, the official website of the New Open World Organization has announced.
Ha Long Bay is currently in its second phase of the four phase bid, in which website voters can provide their private e-mail addresses and finish a list of seven of the nominated sites as natural wonders of the world.
A board of advisors from the New Open World Organization will select twenty-one sites out of a short-list of 77 nominees and announce in January 2009.
The last phase will be done in the form of a global vote scheduled from 2009 to 2010.
The organization plans to release the final result in the summer of 2010.
Ha Long Bay in northern Quang Ninh province was recognized as a world natural heritage site for landscape value in 1994 and geological value in 2000 by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
Vietnam has launched lots of activities to support the nomination of Ha Long Bay.
Vietnam’s heritage site at Phong Nha-Ke Bang and the highest peak on the Indochina Peninsula, Fanxipang, were also amongst the leaders (placed 11th and 14th, respectively). (CP, /VOVNEWS, Capital Security)
