The U.S. LIZ company has applied for a license from the government of Vietnam to develop a US$4.5 billion resort casino in Phu Quoc island off southernmost Kien Giang province, Vietnamese state media said Friday.

If the casino project is permitted, LIZ will finance US$3 billion to help develop southwestern Vietnam’s transportation infrastructure and US$1 billion into Phu Quoc’s transportation systems, the Vietnam News Agency said.

LIZ also pledged that it will provide US$150 million in non-refundable aid and allocate 10 per cent of operation profit from the casino to help develop technical infrastructure systems in the island.

The provincial People’s Committee of Kien Giang has submitted the LIZ proposal to the prime minister. (VNA, www.vnbusinessnews.com))
