In recent years, Quang Ngai’s industry has begun to accelerate by its own internal forces and has obtained impressive results.

Currently, the petrochemical industry and following petrochemical, mechanical, metallurgical, marine economic service industries have become one of the strengths of Quang Ngai. These industries not only create great economic value but also increase revenue for the budget as well as create tens of thousands of jobs. Specifically, Dung Quat oil refinery, PP plastic plant, bio-ethanol Dung Quat bio-fuel plants, and Doosan Heavy Industry Company, to name a few.
To successfully implement breakthrough industrial development in the spirit of Resolution 18 of the Provincial Party Committee, Quang Ngai’s People's Committee issued Decision 738/QD - Committee dated May 22, 2012 approving the industrial development plan of Quang Ngai towards 2020. Mr Nguyen Xuan Thuy, Director of Quang Ngai Department of Industry and Trade, said that in the future, the province will promote industrial development, create economic growth and restructuring, develop industries with comparative advantages and high added-value. The kernel of the industrial development of the province is still Dung Quat Economic Zone with petrochemical complexes, Doosan Heavy Industries complex, shipyard projects and planned large-scale investment projects. Accordingly, the province focuses on expanding Dung Quat Economic Zone to create the impetus for the industrial development of heavy industry. On that basis, the province will establish other industrial and economic zones to create links between the material sources to processing facilities.
The goal of economic growth in the province of Quang Ngai is to average 14 percent and 12.5 percent a year in the period 2011-2015 and in the period 2016-2020, respectively. In particular, the growth of industry and construction reaches 16.5 percent a year, the share of industrial value in the provincial GDP is estimated at 58.1 percent in 2015 and 60.1 percent in 2020. Petrochemical and chemical industry plays an important role in the planning of the provincial industry. The province will develop petrochemical industry into spear-head industry with rapid growth whose production value will reach VND24,213 and VND34,005 in 2015 and 2020, respectively. The share of petrochemical industry and chemical industry reach respectively 60.5 percent and 53.1 percent. Following are the mechanical engineering industry and metallurgy industry whose production values achieve annual growth rate of 79.8 percent and 18.1 percent a year in the period of 2011-2015 and 2016-2020, respectively. The province focuses on the factory producing accessories for petrochemical industry, heavy industry and supporting manufacturing in key economic regions in Central region. Particularly, the processing industry of agricultural products, foodstuffs, beverage timber, paper, mining and mineral will also develop rapidly.
Along with the investment in developing nuclear Dung Quat Economic Zone, Quang Ngai is focusing on the development of Quang Phu Industrial Park, Tinh Phong Industrial Park and handicraft village industrial zone, facilitating the development of handicraft villages and rural industry, contributing to improving economic and social life in all aspects between urban, rural and mountainous areas.
