Vietnamese dragon fruit, a specialty of southern Binh Thuan province, has been struggling with the Thai, Israeli, and Colombian ones to enter EU market, according to a survey released by VCCI in
The survey on exploring the competitiveness of Vietnamese dragon fruit in some EU countries is a part of the project funded by the US Cooperation Authority to enhance Vietnamese competitiveness edge.
However, local exporters are currently facing some obstacles, including high-cost transportation and undiversified dragon fruit varieties, as aiming at the EU market.
To handle the situation, Vietnamese fruit sector is advised to raise the quality of dragon fruit to meet EUREGAP and introduce more fruit varieties into cultivation. Upgrading post-harvest dragon fruit maintenance and froze facilities is also an effective way to improve the competitiveness of Vietnamese dragon fruit in the world market.
Mr. Joseph Nguyen JR, the restaurant’s investor, said he and his partners plan to build additional 10-15 restaurants of the kind in provinces and cities nationwide in the coming years.
