VCCI Assigned to Introduce Vietnam Image in Foreign Countries

With successful Vietnam Days in the US, Germany and Singapore in 2005, the Prime Minister has assigned Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), together with related ministries and agencies, to organise Vietnam Days programmes in the United Kingdom, Republic of Korea, Belgium and Luxembourg in 2006.
 
Vietnam Day in Republic of Korea
 
The event will take place in late August, 2006 in connection with the State visit of Vietnamese leaders to the Republic of Korea (ROK). It will be an opportunity to introduce to the Korean people the image of Vietnam, land and people and to establish partnership between business communities of the two countries.
 
So far ROK ranks fourth in foreign direct investment in Vietnam with 1,029 projects and investment capital of US$5,279 million. Among 572 Korean enterprises operating in Vietnam, 62.8% are already making profit. According to a survey by Korean Trade and Investment Development Agency (KOTRA), Korean companies in Vietnam have higher satisfaction than other countries in the region.
 
In trade, ROK ranks 9th among importers of Vietnamese products worth US$630 in 2005 with main items as sea foods, coffee, fruit and vegetable, garment, footwear, wooden furniture, crude oil, coal, handicraft articles. Meanwhile ROK is the 5th biggest supplier of products to Vietnam with turnover up to US$3.6 billion including materials for apparel, leather, equipment and parts, steel, automobile, plastic, petroleum, electronic parts, computer, pharmaceuticals, fertiliser, motorbike parts.
 
Vietnam Days in Belgium and Luxembourg
 
The event will be scheduled for September 8-17, 2006 in Belgium and Luxembourg.
 
Vietnam and Belgium established diplomatic relations on March 22, 1973. Ever since, the two countries have developed the relationship, especially in economic cooperation. Vietnam exports to Belgium footwear, garment, leather products, minerals, sea foods, handicraft articles and imports from Belgium machines, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, metals, gems, transport vehicles. In 2005, the two-way trade turnover was Euro734.64 million, 14.66% more than 2004.
 
Vietnam Days in Belgium and Luxembourg will be organised on the occasion of ACCENTA International Trade Fair in Ghent (Belgium). In 2005, China was Guest of Honour. This year, Vietnam is Guest of Honour of the trade fair. The trade fair will be attended by His Majesty the King, Prime Minister, Parliament Speaker of Belgium, foreign Ambassadors accredited to Belgium and EU.
 
The event will promote partnership among business communities as well as political and diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Belgium and EU, as in October, 2006, EU will consider the status of Vietnam as a market economy.
 
Vietnam Day in United Kingdom
 
The event will be on October 5-8, 2006 in London. Vietnam and UK established diplomatic relations in 1973 and have developed the relationship in many areas. In FDI, UK is the third biggest investor of EU in Vietnam with 68 projects and investment capital of US$2.2 billion. Since 90s, bilateral economic cooperation has increased sharply. In the past 5 years, Vietnam export to UK increased 25% a year, continued a trade surplus and ranked 42nd among exporters to UK.

-          Forum for Trade-Investment-Tourism Promotion
-          Round Table on foreign direct investment in Vietnam, seminars on indirect investment and financial service, energy development, infrastructure and manufacturing industry, labour export, etc.
-          Business meetings by sectors.
-          Market surveys in host countries.
-          Trade fairs in Belgium, Exhibition of Vietnamese exports in UK and ROK.
-          Disposition of paintings and pictures introducing Vietnamese land and people, tourism.
-          State reception promoting diplomatic relations and introducing Vietnamese culture and culinary.
 
Some 100 Vietnamese businesses will participate in each event promoting trade, investment, tourism and participating in trade fair and exhibition.
