With a favourable location, a developed infrastructure, an international airport, an international seaport, a rich tourism potential, a nice coastline and adjacency to world heritages, a thick history and culture, Danang City is a place of interest.
Danang has ideal destinations for tourists like Ba Na – Suoi Mo Eco-tourism zone with dreamlike and peaceful landscape – an ideal recreation site for tourists. Ngu Hanh Son Landscape and Khmer The local museum contains local characteristic cultural traits and values. Danang Coast is considered one of six most beautiful seashores on the globe with various attractive activities for tourists like diving and water motor and with Non Nuoc, My Khe and Son Tra beaches.
Its cultural heritage includes historical relics and revolutionary sites that are also very enchanting to visitors. Local cultural values also feature classical drama, national singing and dancing and cultural rituals like Goddess of Mercy and Fish Worshipping. Traditional villages still maintain ancient production modes like stone in Non Nuoc Village, sesame in Cam Le Village and mat in Cam Ne.
The revenues of the tourism industry of Danang City increased from VND290 billion (US$18.25 million) in 2001 to VND450 billion (US$28.13 million) in 2005, an annual growth of 9.9 per cent. The tourist volume annually increased 12.5 per cent from nearly 490,000 visitors in 2001 to 780,000 visitors in 2005. The total social income from tourism activities reached nearly VND1,100 billion (US$68.75 million) in 2005. Danang has been an important destination of both domestic and international tourists.
Danang City now is home to more than 70 international and domestic travel firms, and 100 hotels including five-star Furama Hotel, four-star Sandy Beach Hotel and 12 three-star hotels. To date, 41 tourism investment projects have been implemented, including 10 foreign-invested projects valued at US$250 million and 31 domestic projects worth of VND5,445 billion (US$340 million).
In addition, the city’s tourism industry also developed new types of tourism like diving, fishing, Danang - Cu Lao Cham Isle touring, Han River touring, traditional village touring and Hai Van Tunnel touring. The city also tapped world heritages in central Vietnam like “Heritage Road”, “Legendary Truong Son Trail” and “Sunrise Beach.” It also poured money into services for tourism like Danang Supermarket, Metro Supermarket and night markets.
The tourism promotion program for a safe and friendly Danang destination has been highly appreciated domestically and internationally. The Danang Cultural – Tourism Festival, the “Meeting in Ba Na” Programme, the “Meeting on Han River” and other activities have made impressions on visitors. Nowadays, the Danang International Airport has flights to Thailand and Singapore while the Danang Seaport receives dozens of passenger ships a year.
