Vietnam Expects First Seaside Golf Course in 2008
The Hong Kong-based Lilai and a local firm are developing a project to build an 18-hole golf course nearby the sea worth US$36 million in Mong Cai town, northern Quang Ninh province, the first of this kind in Vietnam.
Covering an area of 116.8 hectares, the project is now been carried out with the help and assistance from foreign advisors and designers, Doan Quang Dien, deputy director of Vinh Thuan International Joint Venture said, adding that it is divided into two phases.
“At present, we have finished 90 per cent of the first stage. We will put first works into trial operations early next month,” Dien revealed.
In the second stage, a five-star hotel, an opera house, marine airport and other entertainment centers will be built to serve demands of tourists.
As planned, the project construction will be finished by 2008, Dien said, noting that it will considerably help Quang Ninh province to develop its economy and tourism.
According to statistics from the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT), many big golf course projects such as wholly Japanese-invested golf course in Hanoi, Kim No golf course, and especially Luong Son course in Hoa Binh province, which will be the largest in Southeast Asia, will be put into operations by the end of this year.
By late 2005, Vietnam had 10 operational golf courses and 13 others under construction.
